Women's Volleyball Drops a Pair on Saturday

Danbury, CT| The St. Joseph's College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference contests on the road on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles were edged by the Rochester Institute of Technology 3-0 before falling to host Western Connecticut State University 3-0.

The Golden Eagles move to 1-2 on the season.

SJC 0, RIT 3

The Tigers jumped to an early lead over the Golden Eagles with a 25-16 win in set one. After capturing set two, 25-17, RIT held SJC to just nine points, 25-9, in the final set cruising to a 3-0 victory.

Sophomore Madison Gremli led the Golden Eagles with six kills and two service aces. Senior Amanda Goldstein pitched in with four kills and a solo block.

Sophomore setter Tara Langford dished eight assists with sophomore libero April Sexton recording a team-best 12 digs.

Katie Hobler led the Tigers with 15 kills with Sam Cox and Taylor Higgins addeing10 kills apiece. Setter Sydney Neff tossed 25 assists and Kiana Walker finished with eight digs.

SCJ 0, Western Conn. 3

The Colonials took down the visiting Golden Eagles 25-10 in the first set before completing the sweep with 25-13 and 25-15 wins in sets two and three.

Gremli led SJC again with six kills and four digs. Setters Langford and Veronica Miessmer finished with four assists apiece with the latter scooping up five digs.

Taylor Rohan led the Colonials with a match-best eight kills. Setter Rory McMaster recorded 21 assists and Victoria Korzan led all players with 10 digs.

The Golden Eagles continue non-conference play with they travel to Brooklyn College on Tuesday, September 14. Game time is slated for 7:00 pm.
