Women's Volleyball Falls to USMMA, 3-0

Kings Point, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's volleyball team dropped a Skyline Conference contest 3-0 to the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Monday evening.

The Golden Eagles slide to 4-7 on the season with a 2-1 Skyline Conference record. The Mariners improve to 13-3 overall, 5-1 Skyline.

The opening frame needed extra points to decide the winner with USMMA coming out on top 26-24. The hosts went on to take set two 25-21 before completing the sweep with a 25-16 win in the third set.

Deirdre Carney led the Golden Eagles with nine kills and a .421 hitting percentage. Jamie Trowbridge and Amanda Goldstein added seven kills apiece. Setter Tara Langford tossed 27 assists and recorded a team-best 10 digs.

Sierra Steffen led USMMA with a match-high 11 kills. Setter Brittney Pinzon recorded 21 assists and Paige Smith finished with 11 digs.

The Golden Eagles return to the Danzi Center for a non-conference match-up on Thursday, October 7 when they host Hunter College at 7:00 pm.
