Diblasi's Gem Leads SJC to First Round Win over Maritime

Old Westbury, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's Golden Eagles and Maritime Privateers finally took the field to play their first round Skyline Conference Tournament game after two days of rain outs and the Eagles showed that good things come to those who wait as they picked up a 3-0 victory in the single-elimination game at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex on the campus of SUNY Old Westbury.  The #4-seeded Golden Eagles now advance to the 4:00 p.m. contest later today against top-seeded Old Westbury.  The #5-seeded Privateers were eliminated with the loss.

St. Joseph's senior pitcher Dan Diblasi threw a gem as he scattered eight Maritime hits in a complete game nine-inning shutout.

SJC got on the board early in the bottom of the first as Joseph Calabrese hit a two-RBI double scoring Diblasi and leftfielder Anthony Bonilla.  Dibalsi had reached on an error with two outs and Anthony Bonilla singled to follow him.

Second baseman Anthony Andreani led off the second for the Golden Eagles with a double to leftfield and would come around to score on a wild pitch, increasing the lead to 3-0.

Diblasi bettered his record to 3-5 with the shutout and struck out two and walked only one.  Maritime's pitcher Nick Sarna also went the whole way allowing three runs, one earned, three walks and eight hits.

Calabrese went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Andreani was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
