The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's soccer team was stopped by New Jersey City University in a 4-1 defeat on Wednesday afternoon.

  • Junior Vincent Mariani netted the Golden Eagles long goal

  • Junior Daniel Dacos registered the only assist for SJLI

  • Danny Tobon of the Gothic Knights posted a game-high two goals 

  • Ryan Evande and Maximo Vargas tallied one goal each

  • Jorkaef Fallas and Jason Salamanca each contributed an assist of NJCU

How it happened
  • The Gothic Knights started strong finding the back of the net in the second minute of the game when Maximo Vargas got through the back line to chip one over the keeper to take a 1-0 lead

  • With the half coming to an end Evande capitalized on off a pass from Fallas to build the lead to two goals

  • Just three minutes later and with 15 second remaining in the half Mariani gained control in the box courtesy of Dacos t fire one past the keeper to cut the lead to one 

  • It would be Tobon with just five minutes into the second half who got loose down the left side behind the defenders to get another on on the scoreboard for NJCU

  • In the final minute New Jersey City would seal the victory as Tobon was awarded a penalty kick, which led to the final goal scored

  • The Gothic Knights recorded 13 shots compared to the Golden Eagles who had 10

  • The only two corner kicks were awarded to SJLI

  • Six yellow cards were given out in the match
