Men's Soccer Topples Maritime for First Conference Victory

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's soccer team downs Maritime for the first Conference Victory of the season on Saturday afternoon.

• Sophomore Nick Pensavalle Scored the game-winning goal for the Golden Eagles on three total shots

• Senior Connor Owenburg tallied one goal, with two shots on goal

• Junior Giuseppe Vitale posted seven saves on eight shots faced 

• The Privateer's Justin Song scored the team's only goal

How it happened

• Just four minutes into action Owenburg was able to find space on the right side where the forward would put it over the keeper's right side for the first goal of the match

• In the 21st minute, George Kanellopoulos of Maritime crossed the ball into the box and found the head of Song to tie the game at one apiece 

• Early into the second half, Maritime's Chris Vasquez was able to get a shot off on goal that was sent away by Vitale keeping the game level

• In the 65th minute, Pensavllae took advantage of an open opportunity as the Sophomore found the ball at the top of the box and blasted one past the lower right side of the keeper to pull ahead 2-1

• A few moments later the Privateers would see a couple of opportunities to tie the game but were sent away twice by Vitale

• Both teams registered 12 shots in the match

• SJLI finished with three corner kicks compared to Maritime's two

• The Golden Eagles finished with seven saves 

• Five yellow cards were assessed in the match
