Track & Field Breaks More Team Records at NYC Gotham Cup

New York, N.Y. - The St. Joseph's College men's and women's track & field team kicked off 2012 at the Gotham Cup. Many individuals broke into the top 5 indoor all-time performances at SJC.

Women's Recap
Freshman Sarah Hansen (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) hit the track for the first time in her collegiate career running the 400m and finished first in her section with a time of 1:08.70. This places her #3 on the indoor all-time 400m list.

Men's Recap
Leading the way was senior Sean Meehan (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./Mt. Sinai) competed in the 400m, crossing the finish line at 52.28 which is the 2nd fastest time on the indoor all-time list.

Freshman Robert Johnson (Mastic Beach, N.Y./William Floyd) competed in the mile crossing the finish line at 4:44.64. This time placed Johnson in the #4 spot in the indoor all-time list.

Also competing in the mile was senior Jon Heitner (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) running a personal best of 4:49.62. Later, Heitner ran a personal best of 9:45.81 in the 3000m placing him #4 on the indoor all-time list.

Freshman thrower Michael Sanders (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) competed in the shot-put throwing a personal best of 10.31m, getting closer to the school record that was established in 2006.

Both teams will be back in action on Friday, January 20, 2012 to compete in the Long Island Championships hosted by St. John's University. Competition will begin at 6:30pm at St. Anthony's HS athletic complex.
