James & Johnson Win CTC Titles

Middletown, Conn. - The St. Joseph's College men's and women's track & field team turned in record performances at the CTC Indoor Championships hosted by Stockton College and now boast two team members who have qualified for the upcoming ECAC Championships.
 
Men
The men had an outstanding day as two of track & field's best took home their events conference title. This is the first time in team history that have crowned two conference champions.

Junior Maxwell James (Fort Salonga, NY/Kings Park) ran a time of 1:07.82, earning him his third trip to the ECAC Indoor Championships to be held March 3 and becoming the individual champion in the 500m.

Freshman Robert Johnson (Mastic Beach, NY/William Floyd) became the first freshman in Golden Eagle history to take home the title of champion in the 1000m, crossing the line at 2:39.08 breaking his previous school record.

Later, both James and Johnson were joined by junior Jonathan Afanador (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) and senior Jon Heitner (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) in the distance medley relay taking 7th overall with a time of 11:15.65. This places this group with the third fastest time on the all-time SJC indoor record list.

Women

Competing for the women was junior Christine Cristobal (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hallow Hills West) who took 2nd overall with a career best of 3:04.65 in the 1000m and scoring eight points. This also breaks Cristobal's previous school record by three seconds.  She had previously qaulified for the ECAC Championships.

Thomas McKenna- 200m- 26.70 (Season Best)

The Golden Eagles will return to action at the Lion's Invitational hosted by Molloy College on Friday, February 17 at 6:00 p.m.
