Track & Field Breaks Several SJC Records at NJAC Championships

New York, N.Y. - The St. Joseph's College men's and women's indoor track & field teams turned in record breaking performances at the 2012 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Indoor Championships at the New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory.

Women
Leading the way for the women was junior Christine Cristobal (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hallow Hills West) who took third overall with a season best of 2:19.52 in the 800m and scoring six team points. This also breaks Cristobal's previous St. Joseph's College program record by one second and improves her ECAC qualifying position.

Sophomore Jennica Josema (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) ran a season best in the 200m with a time of 33.58.

Men
Leading the way for the men was junior Maxwell James (Fort Salonga, NY/Kings Park) running a career best in the 400m and taking eighth place overall and garnering one team point. His 51.22 is the new St. Joseph's College record.

Senior Jon Heitner (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) had an outstanding finish to his college indoor career as he ran a career best time of 4:45.32 in the mile, placing him on the top five all-time performance list.

Junior Jonathan Afanador (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) ran a career best in the 800m with a time of 2:02.74.

Later, Afanador was joined by classmate Michael Hartman (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) and freshmen Skylar Ellison (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) and Robert Johnson (Mastic Beach, N.Y./William Floyd) in the 1600-meter relay taking sixth overall with a time of 3:38.96 and scoring three points for the team. This placed this group with the third fastest time on the all-time SJC indoor record list.

Michael Hartman- 400m- 53.48 (Personal Best and #5 Indoor All-Time Performance)
Michael Lombardi- 3000m- 9:50.79 (Personal Best and #5 Indoor All-Time Performance)

The Golden Eagles travel to the ECAC Championships next weekend (March 2-3) which are also held at The Armory.
