Cardneas, Iavarone Star in Women’s Basketball’s Win Over John Jay

Patchogue, NY| Freshman Jami Cardenas scored a game-best and season-high 21 points in the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team's (4-6) 72-46 rout of John Jay College (0-9) inside the Danzi Center on Tuesday evening.

Cardenas' 21 points came off 8-for-13 shooting from the field and 5-for-8 shooting from beyond the arc. The guard also contributed four steals and three rebounds.

Senior Andrea Iavarone went for 20 points and 12 rebounds and recorded her eighth double-double of the season, while sophomore Juliana Cintron Leonardo scored eight points and grabbed a season-high 12 rebounds.

Junior Alicia Indence dished out a game-high seven assists.

In a game that saw zero lead changes, the Golden Eagles jumped out to a 20-9 after the first quarter before taking a 41-22 lead into halftime.

SJC held John Jay scoreless for the first 5:11 of the second half and built leads as large as 37 points before earning the 72-46 victory.

Far superior from the field (41.9%-27.1%), SJC also dominated the boards (53-41) and outscored the Bloodhounds 38-12 in the paint.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, January 6 when they visit Skyline Conference rival SUNY Old Westbury for a 12:00 pm contest. Follow the action with live stats here.
