Iavarone Breaks Single-Season Rebounding Record in Loss to Old Westbury

Patchogue, NY| Senior Andrea Iavarone broke the St. Joseph's College women's basketball team's single-season rebounding record in a Skyline Conference defeat to SUNY Old Westbury, 107-54, on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles slide to 8-14 on the season and 5-10 in conference action. The Panthers improve to 19-3 (13-3 Skyline).

Iavarone recorded a double-double of 21 points on 9-for-18 shooting from the floor and 13 rebounds. The performance sees the forward, who has grabbed 358 rebounds this season, move past Kristin Bihary, who held the previous record of 350 rebounds in 2002-03.

Also scoring in double digits for the Golden Eagles was senior Jennifer Gubell, who provided 14 points from the bench.

Five Panthers finished in double figures with Charlotte Renker recording a team-high 18 points paired with 11 boards.  Monique Joseph pitched in with 17 points and Davida Warren knocked down 14 points off the beach.  Tori Billings and Bridgid McNeil rounded out the top scorers with 13 and 10 points respectively.

The Panthers led the entire contest shooting 52.2% from the field while holding the Golden Eagles to just 29.2%. The visitors held a slight 30.8% to 26.2% edge from long distance as well as a 56.3% to 37.5% advantage at the free throw line. 

OW dominated the paint, grabbing 69 rebounds to SJC's 35 and outscoring the hosts 72-22 down low.

The Golden Eagles return to Skyline action when they travel to face the United States Merchant Marine Academy Tuesday, Feb. 13. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
