Women's Lacrosse Downed by DeSales

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's lacrosse team suffered a 17-6 non-conference loss to DeSales University at Danzi Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Golden Eagles slide to 0-2 as the Bulldogs improve to 2-3.

Junior Jamie Trowbridge guided the SJC offense with four points on three goals and an assist. The midfielder also caused two turnovers and picked up two groundballs.

Junior Melissa Newman finished a pair of goals and an assist with sophomore Emily O'Mara rounding out the scoring with her second goal of the season.

Freshman Deirdre Carney collected a game-best seven draw controls.

DeSales was led by a nine-point performance from Marina Bradley who finished with seven goals and two assists. Hayley Petrosini added three goals with three Bulldogs recording two goals apiece.

DeSales netted back-to-back goals to open the first quarter before SJC's Newman put the Golden Eagles on the board with her first score of the night. DU's Bradley closed out the first frame with her second goal of the night and the Bulldogs went on a 4-0 run through most of the second quarter before Trowbridge closed out the half with a man-up goal sending SJC into the break trailing 7-2.

Trowbridge opened the scoring in the third quarter, but the Bulldogs took over and went on to score eight unanswered goals in the frame for a 15-3 lead. The Golden Eagles outscored DU 3-2 in the fourth quarter, but DeSales went on to cruise to the 17-6 win.

SJC's Jillian Hummel made 10 saves on the night with her counterpart Michaela Regan finishing with six.

The Golden Eagles return to Danzi Stadium on Saturday, March 26 when they host Albright College at 3:30 pm.
