Women's Lacrosse Tops CMSV on Senior Day, 15-5

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's lacrosse team claimed a 15-5 win over the College of Mt. St. Vincent at Danzi Stadium on Senior Day.

The Golden Eagles improve to 4-6 on the season and even out at 3-3 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins slip to 4-5 overall, 2-4 Skyline.

Junior Jamie Trowbridge paced the SJLI with nine points on six goals and three assists. The midfielder added a game-best five caused turnovers and four turnovers. Junior Melissa Newman finished with seven points on five goals and two assists and Emily O'Mara rounded out the scoring with four goals and an assist. The sophomore added a team-high five draw controls.

Junior Sydney Furno and Freshman Deirdre Carny both recorded three ground balls while causing four turnovers.

CMSV's Alicia Rodriguez and Ashley Teal scored twice for the Dolphins with Rodriguez winning a game-best seven draw controls.

The two sides were deadlocked at two after the first frame, but the Golden Eagles found the back of the net five times while shutting out the Dolphins in the second quarter to take a 7-2 lead into the break.

Trowbridge and Newman combined for five unanswered goals to open up the second half before O'Mara's man-down goal extended the lead to 13-2. The Dolphins capitalized on an extra-man opportunity for a goal with just 20 seconds left in the frame.

Just as in the first quarter, both teams scored twice in the fourth bringing the game to its final 15-5.

As a team, the Golden Eagles outshot the Dolphins 32-24 and held a slight 16-18 edge in ground balls.

SJLI goalie Jillian Hummel recorded 11 saves with CMSV's Katherine Hungerford finishing with eight.

The Golden Eagles close out the regular season on Wednesday, April 27 when they travel to face Manhattanville College at 5:00 pm.
