Gagliardi Becomes All-Time Leading Goal Scorer in 8-0 Win over York

Patchogue, NY| Junior Christina Gagliardi became the St. Joseph's College All-Time leading goal scorer with her 32nd career goal in the 52nd minute of an 8-0 non-conference win over York College Sunday afternoon. The Golden Eagles improve to 3-4 on the season and the Cardinals slide to 0-10-1.

The forward surpasses Angie Merante who set the record of 31 goals in 2009.

Gagliardi opened the scoring just 24 seconds into the match when she put in her own rebound from her initial shot. A York handball in the box at 18 minute mark prompted SJC's Claire Brady for a penalty kick which sailed by York keeper Yvonne Zapata for a 2-0 SJC advantage.

Seconds after coming in off the bench, Jessica Passabile had her initial shot blocked, but followed it up and found the back of the net to send the Golden Eagles into the break leading 3-0.

Brady netted her second goal of the day in the opening minutes of the second half after receiving a pass from Savannah McMaster. Back-to-back goals from Gagliardi pushed the lead to six with just over 38 minutes left on the clock.

Goals from Kristen Schoenhofen and Samantha Caruso later in the half moved the score to its final 8-0.

The Golden Eagles return to Skyline Conference play on Thursday, October 4 when they travel to face Old Westbury. Game time is slated for 4:00 pm.
