Women's Soccer Falls in Skyline Semifinals

Newburgh, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's soccer team was eliminated from the Skyline Conference Championships with a 3-1 semifinal loss to the second-seeded Knights of Mt. St. Mary College Wednesday afternoon.

The third-seeded Golden Eagles finish the season with a 10-7-0 overall record. The Knights improve to 13-5-1 and advance to face top-seeded Farmingdale State in the finals.

After a first-half penalty shot made by MSMC's Chrissy Cannella put the Knights ahead 1-0, SJC's Christina Gagliardi took a feed from Kristin Schoenhofen and found the back of the net a minute into the second frame. The equalizer was the forward's 19th of the season matching St. Joseph's single-season goal record.

The game remained even at one over the next 33 minutes of play before Canella dished to Liz Ellsworth who buried a shot to the lower right corner for a 2-1 MSMC advantage. Ellsworth added some insurance for the Knights in the 85th minute with her second goal of the afternoon to move the score to its final 3-1.

The Knights outshot the Golden Eagles 14-4 with a 5-3 edge in corner kicks. Cintron-Leonardo finished with five saves.
