SJC XC Selected to Repeat as '14 Skyline Champs in Preseason Poll

NEW YORK, N.Y. - St. Joseph's-L.I. is the choice to seize the 2014 Skyline Cross Country Championships in voting conducted by the league's head coaches. 

The SJC women garnered eight first-place votes and 80 overall points, while 2013 runner-up Mount Saint Mary earned a pair of first-place votes and 72 total points.  Junior Brittany Guttieri, who finished second overall at the 2013 Skyline Championship, seeks to lead the Golden Eagles to their eighth league crown in nine seasons.   

Yeshiva finished third in the voting with 63 points, followed by Purchase (54), Sage (53), Farmingdale State (35), Maritime (30), Sarah Lawrence (28), Mount Saint Vincent (18) and Old Westbury (17).  PC welcomes back junior Katherine Henri, the 2013 Skyline individual champion. 

On the men's side, four-time defending champion St. Joseph's-L.I. received seven first-place votes and 79 total points, while Maritime placed second in the poll with 67 overall points and one first-place vote.  The Golden Eagles will be led by senior Brian Wersan, who finished second overall at the 2012 Skyline Championship and captured the individual title a year ago.  Maritime junior Cameron Coneys has finished in the top two overall in each of the past two league championship meets.    

2013 runner-up Yeshiva garnered one first-place vote and finished third in the poll with 61 points, followed by Mount Saint Mary (55), Sage (50), Farmingdale State (39), Purchase (33), Mount Saint Vincent (30), Sarah Lawrence (24) and Old Westbury (12).   

The 2014 Skyline Cross Country Championships will be held on Sunday, Oct. 26, at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome in Milton, N.Y.
