XC Among Elite at Post Invitational Besting all DIII Teams

Brookville, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College cross country programs made their dexterity known at the L.I.U. Post Invitational on Saturday, earning themselves a spot at the very top of the leaderboard among elite competition. In addition to both the men and women placing first out of all participating Division III teams, the men also beat five out of nine Division II teams while the women bested a whopping seven out of the nine Division II teams competing.

The women's team placed 6th overall with only Division I and II teams ahead of them.  Lauren Waka (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./ Sachem North  ) led her team across the finish line of the 5K course, placing 18th with a time of 19:37. Samantha Maurice (Holtsville, N.Y./ Sachem East) followed, capturing 30th place overall with a time of 20:26 while Brittany Guttieri (Oakdale, N.Y./ Connetquot) placed 35th with a time of 20:34.

Brian Wersan (Holbrook, N.Y./ Sachem North) led the men's team through the 8K course, placing 15th overall with a time of 26:15. Nick Morfesi (West Babylon, N.Y./ West Babylon) logged a time of 27:59, placing 44th overall, while Nick Diaz (Hauppauge, N.Y./ Hauppauge) was close behind, placing 47th with a time of 28:07.

The Golden Eagles will compete against exclusively Division III teams, most of which are members of the Skyline Conference, on Saturday at the Bard College Invitational.
