Men’s Soccer Downed by Staten Island in 2018 Opener

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team was handed a 3-1 defeat by the College of Staten Island at home on Saturday in what was the team's opening contest of the 2018 campaign.

Trailing 2-0 at the half, SJC fell behind 3-0 in the 69th minute when CSI's Bryant Navarro sneaked a header past sophomore keeper Tyler Flaherty.

Junior forward Rayneri Ruiz opened his 2018 goal scoring account in the 80th minute when he beat the Staten Island keeper low to the right side (3-1).

In total, five players made their SJC debuts including Flaherty, who made 11 saves on 14 shots.

CSI recorded 25 shots to SJC's five in the contest and also won more corners (10-1).

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, September 4 when they visit Western Conn. for a non-conference tilt at 6:00 pm.
