Yeshiva’s Second-Half Surge Sinks Men’s Soccer

Patchogue, NY| After going ahead 2-0 four minutes into the second half, the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team conceded three-straight goals and were defeated 3-2 by Skyline Conference rival Yeshiva University at Danzi Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 2-4 on the year and ensures they begin their conference campaign with a 0-1 record. The Maccabees improve to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in Skyline play.

Junior Rayneri Ruiz opened the scoring in the 15th minute when he finished off junior Damian Duda's cross from the left for his sixth goal of the season.

Duda doubled SJC's lead (2-0) in the 49th minute when he curled a shot from outside the box around Yeshiva keeper Edgar Schottland.

After 20 minutes of scoreless play, Yeshiva cut the hosts' deficit in half (2-1) via Jonah Beberman in the 69th minute. Three minutes later the Maccabees tied the match (2-2) when Zachary Stauber beat Tyler Flaherty with a header.

Yeshiva's winner would come in the 81st minute when Beberman tapped in Alberto Benhamu's cross from the left side for his second tally of the afternoon.

Flaherty (2-4) made four saves in a contest that saw his side outshoot its opponent 14-11. Yeshiva's Schottland (4-2) made three saves.

St. Joseph's also held the edge in corners won (4-0).
