Men’s Soccer and Old Westbury Play to 1-1 Draw

Old Westbury, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team and Skyline Conference rival SUNY Old Westbury played to a 1-1 draw at Panther Park in Old Westbury, NY on Tuesday afternoon.

The draw sees the Golden Eagles move to 4-6-1 overall on the year and 2-2-1 in conference play. The Panthers (4-4-3) remain unbeaten in Skyline action (1-0-3).

Old Westbury jumped out to an early 1-0 lead 5:09 into regulation when Ronald Monge finished off a Nick Gino pass in the box for his first tally of the year.

SJC found an equalizer just eight minutes later when junior Rayneri Ruiz scored an unassisted goal; his team-leading eighth of the season.

With no winner in sight after 90 minutes, the teams proceeded to overtime where the hosts outshot the Golden Eagles 2-1 but failed to find an equalizer as the teams shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw.

Sophomore keeper Tyler Flaherty was credited with three saves on four shots while is counterpart, Old Westbury's Mike Warren, made four saves on five shots.

In total, SJC was outshot 17-14 in the contest and won one fewer corner kick (4-3) than the Panthers.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, October 6 when they host Sarah Lawrence for a Skyline Conference contest at 3:00 pm.
