Hoboken, NJ| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's lacrosse team dropped a 17-4 decision to the Stevens Institute of Technology in the teams' season opener in Hoboken, NJ on Sunday afternoon.  The Golden Eagles fall to 0-1 on the season while the Ducks start their season 1-0.

Stevens came out strong in the first half, tallying four goals in the game's opening 10 minutes to build a 4-0 lead. After conceding seven more goals, with 3:24 to play in the half, Emily Fey ended the guests' skid with a goal to avoid the shutout, 11-1.  Two minutes later Fey would double SJC's goal total (11-2), but the hosts were able to answer back with a goal of their own to exit the half with a 12-2 lead.

The Golden Eagles got the scoring started in the second quarter when senior Brooke Kreuscher fed the ball to freshman Diana Johnston to net her first collegiate goal at the 28:17 mark. Two more tallies for the hosts off the sticks of Mariel Haubrich and Mackenzie Metzler extended the Ducks lead to 11 goals (14-3), but a second goal by Diana Johnston brought SJC back to within 10 at the 18:30 mark. The Ducks would take their biggest lead of the contest with 1:55 remaining as Stevens rolled to the 17-4 victory.

Johnston and Fey's two goals were team-highs for the Golden Eagles, and Nicole Stoppelli along with Kreuscher were each credited a point each with their assists in the contest. Stevens held the advantage in shots generating 41 compared to SJC's eight.

The Golden Eagles will look to rebound in their home opener on Saturday March 4th when they face-off in a non-conference game against Hartwick College at 1:00 p.m. at Danzi Stadium. Live stats available here.
