Women's Lacrosse Suffers Conference Defeat to Farmingdale on Tuesday Night

Written by Joshua Soto (SJC-LI Sports Information)

Farmingdale, NY| Sophomore Nicole Stoppelli and senior Brooke Kreuscher each tallied a hat trick as the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's lacrosse team suffered its first conference lost in two years on Tuesday afternoon, dropping a 15-8 decision to rival Farmingdale St. on the road. With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 1-7 (0-1) on the season while the Rams pick their first conference victory and move to 6-0 on the year.

After falling behind by three goals less than two minutes into the game, Stoppelli and Kreuscher fired back-to-back goals in the 24th and 25th minute to bring the Golden Eagles within one (3-2).

Two goals by the Rams inched the hosts' lead back to three, but Stoppelli brought SJC right back into the game with an unassisted goal. With 4:33 left in the half, Farmingdale regained its three-goal advantage courtesy of a Brittany Rosino goal, and less than 30 seconds later Aneisha Scott tallied her first-career colligate goal off the sticks of Kreuscher to close the gap to two (7-5).

A trio of goals from the Rams in the first half's final three minutes ensured a 10-5 advantage for FSU at the half, and another pair of goals in the second half's first eight minutes gave Farmingdale its largest lead of the contest (12-5) at 22:04.

Kreuscher's (20:56) and Lauryn Gregson's (19:13)  back-to-back goals ended the slide for SJC, but Farmingdale responded with another goal to increase the Golden Eagles' deficit to six (13-7) with 17:21 to play.

Kreuscher's third tally brought the game back within five (13-8), but consecutive goals by Alexandra Sparrow and Rosino inside the final two minutes clinched a 15-18 victory for the Rams.

Lindsay Ramos made 11 saves on 26 shots and was handed the first conference defeat of her collegiate career and Tori Johnston picked up the win and made 10 saves in 18 shots.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday, March 30 when they travel to face Manhattanville in a non-conference match-up at 5:00 PM.  Live stats will be available here.
