Women’s Swimming Finishes Sixth at Skyline Championships

Purchase, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's swimming team earned a sixth-place finish in a field of eight competing teams at the 2018 Skyline Conference Championships at SUNY Purchase on Friday and Saturday.

With 74 total points, SJC trailed fifth-place Purchase (77 points) and finished eight points ahead of seventh-place St. Joseph's College (Brkln). The United States Merchant Marine Academy placed first (587) and Mount St. Mary College (343 points) and Sarah Lawrence College (223 points) finished in second and third places, respectively.

Sophomore Samantha Mullman broke two school records on Friday, first in the 200 yard freestyle (2:07.40) and later in the 50 yard freestyle (26.02). The Massapequa, NY native placed fifth in both events.

Mullman, along with junior Catherine Peralta, sophomore Aileen Baker and freshman Bella Peralta, also earned a fifth-place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay (4:14.26) on day two.

Bella Peralta shaved nearly a second off of her seed time in the 200 yard fly (2:49.75) and finished in seventh place. Baker was five seconds better than her seed time in the 200 yard back and earned a 12th-place finish.

In the 200 yard breaststroke, senior Marissa Palmeri (3:10.13) and freshman Jordyn Cummings (3:14.82) took 12th and 13th places, respectively.

Baker also produced finals times significantly better than her seed times in both the 1,000 yard free (12:51.94) and the 500 yard free (6:08.04).

The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday, January 28 when they host St. Joseph's College (Brkln) in their final meet of the 2017-18 season. Teams hit the pool at 3:00 pm.
