
Women’s Tennis Drops Skyline Match at Sarah Lawrence
Bronxville, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's tennis team was defeated, 8-1, by Sarah Lawrwnce College in a Skyline Conference showdown in Bronxville on Saturday afternoon.
The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 0-2 overall and in conference play as the Gryphons move to 5-1 and 1-0.
SJC dropped first and second doubles matches, 8-4 and 8-1, respectively, and were credited with a forfeit loss at third doubles.
Sophomore Angela Avecillas Martinez registered SJC's only victory of the afternoon when she picked up a 6-1, 6-2 result at fourth singles.
Sophomore Haley Celona dropped a hard-fought third singles match, 5-7, 3-6.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday, September 26, when they host Baruch College at the Outdoor Field Complex for a non-conference contest at 12:00 pm.
