Kings Point, NY| The third-seeded St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's volleyball team saw its 2016 season come to an end on Thursday evening after suffering a 3-1 road defeat to #2 U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in the semifinal round of the Skyline Conference Championship.

With the loss the Golden Eagles wrap the season with a 14-14 record as the Mariners improve to 18-9 and advance to the conference championship game where they'll meet top-seeded Farmingdale.

A very tight first half yielded a 15-15 scoreline but it was the Mariners that rallied late with a 10-2 run to claim the first frame 25-17.

Again in the second the teams found themselves tied midway through the set (16-16), and it was again the hosts that surged late to the win (25-20).

SJC opened up a 23-15 lead in the third and eventually held off USMMA en route to a 25-21 win that brought the match back to within one (2-1), but the Mariners breezed to a 25-14 win in the fourth to earn the 3-1 victory.

In the final game of their careers, seniors Courtney Bocchieri and Courtney Wickline led the team in kills (15) and assists (40), respectively.

Junior Claire Urizzo and senior Erin Kelly registered seven kills apiece, and sophomore Danielle Senecal collected a game- and season-best 33 digs.
