Cross Country Competes at NJIT XC Challenge

Newark, NJ| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's and men's cross country teams placed 13th and eight, respectively, at the NJIT XC Challenge at Branch Brook Park in Newark, NJ on Saturday afternoon.

Competing in a field of 29 teams, the women were led by junior Meagan Haviland, who was the highest-placing Division III runner in 10th place with a 5k time of 18:45.04.

Sophomore Caleigh Capek (20:21.09) finished in 67th place while sophomore Sandra Vivar Marin (20:49.72) and junior Marlee Lopez (21:26.21) took 87th and 99th places, respectively. 

In the men's 8k race, SJC, in a field of 31 teams, were powered by freshman Matt Lopez, who posted a time of 26:53.60 and finished in 31st place.

Sophomore Dennis O'Rourke (27:16.93) was a 49th-place finisher while Nick DeLuca (27:28.18) and freshman Patrick Wuss (28:10.37) placed 57th and 83rd, respectively. 

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, October 12 when they host the inaugural Golden Eagle Invitational at Bethpage State Park at 12:00 pm.
