Cross Country Wraps Season at NCAA Atlantic Regionals

Canton, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's and men's cross country teams wrapped up their 2019 seasons at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional Championships at St. Lawrence University on Saturday afternoon with 27th- and 29th-place finishes, respectively.

The women collected 783 points in a field of 38 teams and were one of two Skyline Conference teams to compete at the meet.

Junior Meagan Haviland paced the women with a person-best 6k time of 24:36.2 and a 79th-place finish. Haviland's finish was the highest a member of the women's cross country team has placed at regionals since Ann Marie Zigrosser took 69th place in 2013.

In support were sophomores Caleigh Capek (26:02.5) and Sandra Vivar Marin, who took 157th and 174th, respectively. Senior Karli Murphy (26:54.2) took 194th place.

The men earned 807 points in a field of 42 teams in the men's 8k race. SJC was one of three Skyline teams racing in the men's event.

Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year Ryan Wilson paved the way for the SJC men with a 113th-place finish and a time of 27:14.8.

Sophomore Dennis O'Rourke (27:35.5) took 136th and freshmen Matt Lopez (27:49.0) finished 147th. Freshman Patrick Wuss placed 189th with a time of 28:39.7.
