Men's Cross Country Wins SJLI Invitational; Women Place 6th

October 12, 2023 – Kings Park, NY (Sunken Meadow Park)

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's cross country team took home a first-place finish at the SJLI Invitational at Sunken Meadow Park on Saturday afternoon. On the women's side, the Golden Eagles placed sixth.

Top performers
  • Graduate student Matt Lopez was the overall top finisher in the 8K race turning in a time of 26:34.1, just about 42 seconds ahead of second place
  • Freshman Ryan Steinberg came in at 28:48.4 for an eighth-place finish

  • Sophomore Jimmy Mintel rounded out the top three with a time of 30:13.6

  • Junior Gianna Dickson led the way for the women with a 5K time of 20:39.0 to place fifth overall

  • Senior Marissa Degni cracked the top 10 with a time of 20:55.5 and an eighth-place finish

How it happened
  • The men's race included 21 teams spanning DII, DIII, and junior college divisions, The Golden Eagles finished with a score of 89, and narrowly beat out SUNY New Paltz who came in second at 103 points. Farmingdale St. recorded a score of 117 and finished third

  • On the women's side, 18 teams competed with the Golden Eagles beating out all other Skyline opponents with 225 points. SUNY New Paltz came in first with 64 points ahead of St. Thomas Aquinas (80) and Felician College (85)
