Men's Cross Country Takes Home Second Place; Women Finish Sixth at Skyline Championships

Result

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's cross country team finished second with the women placing sixth at the 2023 Skyline Conference Championships on Sunday. 

Top performers

• Graduate student Matt Lopez was the overall men's top finisher with an 8k time of 27:28.6

• Freshman Ryan Steinberg placed seventh with a time of 30:00.0

• Sophomore Jimmy Mintel rounded out the top three finishing 31:07.6

• Junior Gianna Dickson led the SJLI women with a 6k time of 26:22.3 and a second-place finish

• Senior Marissa Degni took fourth place turning in a time of 27:13.2

How it happened

• The men's team amassed 59 points and came in ahead of Farmingdale State College with 80

• The women totaled 155 points edging out Mt. St. Mary with 156

• USMMA won the men's championships with SUNY Maritime capturing the title for the women

• Lopez took home Male Runner of the Year with head coach Jim Crowley named Coach of the Year on the men's side
