Eagles Dominate Game One, Hunted by Rangers in Game Two

Madison, N.J. – The Lady Eagles (11-7) couldn't carry their offensive success from game one into the second game against the Drew Rangers (11-7). SJC won the first game,10-1, and lost the second, 3-1.

Despite the Eagles game one rout, Drew came out roaring offensively in the first inning, loading the bases with two outs but Cassie Martinez (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) got out of the jam unscathed with a strikeout. The Rangers got a leadoff double in the second inning and that runner came around to score the only run for Drew.

The Eagles offense exploded in the third inning starting with SJC loading the bases with no outs and scoring their first run on an error by the catcher. Julianne Tierney (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and one out and drilled a double down the right field line bringing home two runs. The next batter, Melanie Boccio (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) singled, driving in another Eagles run. Nicole Reda (Saint James, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) followed up Boccio's base hit with an RBI double as Boccio was thrown out at third.

The Eagles put three more runs on the board in the fourth inning. Lindsey Corriss (Sayville, N.Y./St. Anthony's) had an RBI triple and Boccio, an RBI double. The Rangers loaded the bases in the fourth inning with one out but Martinez got out of trouble once again. SJC tacked on two more runs on three hits in the sixth inning including a Tierney RBI double.

Tierney went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Boccio finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Corriss went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Martinez went the distance, striking out four and giving up just one unearned run.

The Lady Eagles kept their offensive momentum going into the second game as they loaded the bases with one out but managed just one run. The Eagles got two runners on in the second inning but stranded them on base. The Rangers put their first run across in the bottom of the third inning on a throwing error. Drew got their first two batters on base in the sixth and they both came around to score as they took the lead into the seventh. The Lady Eagles were retired in order as they split the doubleheader.

Gabrielle Cinquemani (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Amanda Eremita (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) pitched well in the losing effort for the Eagles going six innings, giving up just two earned runs.
