Second Half Run Propels Panthers Past Eagles

Purchase, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College women's basketball team (12-13, Skyline 6-8) finished the season under .500 after a 73-51 loss to Purchase (16-9, Skyline 10-4). The Panthers returned the favor by sweeping the Eagles during the regular season, after St. Joseph's did it last year.

St. Joseph's hung around the entire first half, going shot-for-shot with Purchase. The Eagles managed to grab their only lead of the game off a Christina Cohen (Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown East) three-pointer with 2:40 left in the first half. However, the Panthers closed out the half on a 7-0 run to grab a 33-27 lead heading into the locker room.

The Purchase run continued coming out of the break; the Panthers extended the lead to 27 off a 23-2 run over the first six minutes of the half. They maintained the lead for the rest of the game and cruised to the 73-51 victory.

The leading scorer for St. Joseph's was Laura Cohen (Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown East) with 19 points. Amanda Bender (East Northport, N.Y. / Northport) had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. As a team the Eagles shot just 29% from the floor and went 7-of-28 from beyond the arc.
