Four in Double Figures Not Enough as Farmingdale Pushes Past Golden Eagles, 63-55

Patchogue, NY| Four Golden Eagles scored in double-digits but it was not enough as The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team dropped its contest to Farmingdale St., 63-55, in a Skyline Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon inside the Danzi Center. The Golden Eagles fall to 1-6 (0-4 Skyline), while the Rams improve to 4-2 (3-0 Skyline)

The Golden Eagles would get on the board first courtesy of a Jackie Zizzo jump shot a minute into the game. After falling behind at 5:27, Alicia Indence sparked an 17-2 run to put the Golden Eagles in front 19-10. With under a minute remaining, the Rams scored the final basket of the quarter to cut their deficit to seven (21-14).

SJC started the second quarter with a 13-2 run to extend its lead by 18 (34-16) with 3:40 left in the half. The two sides then exchanged baskets as the Golden Eagles exited the half with a double-digit lead, 41-28.

Danielle Gehring got the third quarter started with a made layup and converted on her and-one attempt to put the Golden Eagles ahead by 16 (44-28). A short 9-4 run by the Rams cut the Golden Eagles' lead to 11 with 5:51 left. After a made free throw by Andrea Iavarone, Farmingdale capped of the third with a 10-0 run, to come within two, 49-47.
The Rams retook the lead with a Casey Essence layup at the 5:51 mark to put Farmingdale up by one, 52-51. Down 56-53 at 3:10, a layup by Zizzo shorten the Golden Eagles' deficit to one, but the Rams would take charge and amount a successful comeback with a 7-0 run to down the hosts 63-55.

Indence, along with Zizzo and Gehring finished in double-digits with 12 points each, Jennifer Gubell added with 10 points of her own. Iavarone collected a game-high in rebounds with 18 and tallied five points. Despite being outshot by the Rams on the field (35.6%-32.8%), the Golden Eagles held the advantage in three-point field percentage (37.5%-13.6%) and in rebounds (45-36).

The Golden Eagles return action on Tuesday, December 13 when they travel to take on Skyline foe Yeshiva University at 7:00pm. Live stats will be available here.
