Golden Eagles Surge Past Yeshiva 5-0

North Arlington, NJ| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's soccer team captured its first victory of the season against Yeshiva University in a Skyline Conference matchup late Tuesday night at Riverside-South County Park in North Arlington, NJ. The Golden Eagles are now 1-2-1 (1-0 Skyline Conference) on the season while Yeshiva falls to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

The Golden Eagles got off to a strong start and never looked back as they controlled the tempo for most of the game, creating numerous scoring opportunities. The opening goal came in the fourth minute from senior Chelsea Bellini, who took the keeper one-on-one and slid it home.

St. Joseph's doubled its lead in the 13th minute when sophomore Claire Brady scored on a breakaway goal to take a 2-0 lead. Bellini notched her second goal of the game in the 21st minute, after she beat the keeper to increase SJC's lead to three.

St. Joseph continued its strong offensive pace in the second half, as Erin Ward scored her first collegiate goal with Emily Fontinha assisting in the 65th minute. The Golden Eagles concluded their scoring after Krisitn Winter scored her first career goal when she broke through the right side from a pass by Megan Locke in the 73rd minute.

Bellini's pair marked her first and second tallies of her SJC career. Senior goalkeeper Katie McGarrell recorded her fifth-career shutout and recorded one save on the night.

St. Joseph's College outshot Yeshiva 39-1 and had the advantage in corners 8-0.

The win was the first for Nic DeZenzo in his head-coacing career. 

The Golden Eagles will finish their four game road trip on Thursday September 10, when they face Stockton University at 7 PM.
