Patchogue, NY| Behind a four-goal first half, the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's soccer team defeated SUNY Old Westbury 5-0 in the opening round of the Skyline Conference playoffs at Danzi Stadium on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 8-9-1 on the season and will play Farmingdale State on the road in the Skyline semifinals on Wednesday.

After registering the first five shots of the game, St. Joseph's pulled out in front in the 10th minute when sophomore Claire Brady banged home a rebound off a Kristin Carroll shot from the right side. Brady would double the SJC lead in the 21st minute, when she took the ball into the middle of the pitch, beat two defenders and slotted a shot around the keeper from just inside the box.

St. Joseph's continued to apply pressure later in the half and increased their lead to three goals when senior Megan Leun tapped in a corner attempt from a Carroll in the 38th minute. Shortly thereafter, senior Jessica Cordano played a ball to fellow classman Shannon Kennedy at the top of the 18 and the midfielder beat the Old Westbury keeper low right side in the 42nd minute.

The Golden Eagles entered halftime with a 4-0 lead following a half that saw them outshoot the Panthers 20-2. After the restart, St. Joseph's maintained its first half momentum, generating five shots through the first 17 minutes.

In the 66th minute, senior Chelsea Bellini took a through-ball from Brady and deposited the match's final tally low left side. The Golden Eagles would generate five more shots in the closing 24 minutes, but the match would draw to a close with a 5-0 score line.

In a match that saw her side outshoot its opponent 31-2, SJC keeper Katie McGarrell was forced into making just one save. Old Westbury's keeper Melissa Muller was credited with 10.

St. Joseph's also outpaced the Panthers in generated corners (9-2), but was whistled for five fouls in comparison to Old Westbury's four.
