Women's Soccer Drops Skyline Contest 2-0 Against Farmingdale State

Farmingdale, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.)  women's soccer team held Farmingdale State scoreless for more than 60 minutes of play, but ultimately suffered a 2-0 loss on Tuesday night on the road. Ashley Guerrero tallied the game-winning goal for the Rams.

Despite a large shot advantage for Farmingdale St. (6-5-2, 4-1-0 Skyline), St. Joseph's (5-7-1, 4-3-0) was able to keep its opponent in check for the majority of the match. Senior goalkeeper Katie McGarrell turned away five of seven shots that came on net.

McGarrell and the SJC defense locked down on the Rams in the first 45 minutes of play as Farmingdale recorded two shots in the opening frame.

Farmingdale State came out in the second half controlling the game, as they had momentum sway towards its side. The Rams recorded two shots in the opening minutes of the half but could not find the back of the net. The hosts finally broke through in the 60th minute when Alexandria Tudisco sent a pass down the middle as it landed in the feet of Guerrero, who slotted it home for the game-winner.

The Golden Eagles were just out of reach of their first goal of the night as Claire Brady had the keeper beat and shot it just wide of the goal.

Farmingdale added an insurance goal with nine minutes left to play in regulation, when Melissa Lijo shot the ball past a sliding defender and was deflected to the bottom right corner to give the Rams a 2-0 victory.

The Golden Eagles return to the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 14 when they host the College of Staten Island. The match is slated to begin at 7 PM at the Dazi Stadium. Live stats will be available here.
