Young Named Skyline Player of the Week, Jacobus and O’Rourke Tabbed Rookies of the Week

New York, NY| The Skyline Conference released its weekly awards on Monday afternoon and amongst the winners was sophomore Jessica Young, who was named Women's Volleyball Player of the Week.

Additionally, sophomore Cassidy Jacobus and freshman Dennis O'Rourke took home Women's Cross Country and Men's Cross Country Rookies of the Week honors, respectively, and junior Nora Burnett appeared on the Women's Tennis Weekly Honor Roll. 

Jessica Young (So.) – Women's Volleyball Player of the Week

Young hit an impressive .491 through three matches last week as the women's volleyball team posted a perfect 3-0 record. Averaging 3.20 kills-per-set, the Huntington Station, NY native recorded 32 total kills and was credited with 10 totals blocks. In a 3-0 sweep of Albertus Magnus on Sept. 18, Young hit .591 and went for a game-high 14 kills.

Cassidy Jacobus (So.) – Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week

Competing at the annual Bard Invitational on Saturday, Jacobus posted a 6k time of 26:19.1 and placed 11th. Jacobus was the highest-placing Skyline first-year runner at the contest and trailed only Meagan Haviland among the SJC contingent. With a total score of 71, St. Joseph's finished first, 27 points clear of second-place Mount St. Mary.

Dennis O' Rourke (Fr.) – Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week

Also competing at the Bard Invitational, O'Rourke placed 12th with an 8k time of 29:34.4. He, too, was the highest-placing Skyline first-year runner in the men's race and the fourth freshman to cross the finish line. SJC finished in sixth place and the Laurel, NY native edged out teammate Thomas Newham by just 1.2 seconds.

Nora Burnett (Jr.) - Women's Tennis Weekly Honor Roll

During a 1-1 week for the women's tennis team, Burnett picked up a pair of victories in SJC's road win at SUNY Delhi on Sunday afternoon. After picking up an 8-1 win with Amanda Post at second doubles, the Amityville, NY native clinched a 6-0, 6-1 victory at fourth singles.
