Curaro and Freeley Named Skyline Players of the Week, Three Others Rookies of the Week

New York, NY| The Skyline Conference released its weekly awards on Tuesday morning and amongst the winners were junior Paul Curaro (men's volleyball) and Ryan Freeley (men's tennis) of St. Joseph's College (L.I.), who were named Players of the Week in their respective sports.

Additionally, freshmen Nick Bongiorno (men's tennis), Catherine Zucker (softball) and Sean Williams (men's volleyball) all picked up Rookie of the Week nods. Senior Anthony Raucci of the baseball team was a Weekly Honor Roll selection.

Paul Curaro (Jr.) – Men's Volleyball Player of the Week

Curaro hit .222 through three matches last week at a 3.71 kills-per-set pace. In a five-set loss to Baruch on March 21, the junior put down a team-best 19 kills and was credited with six digs. Curaro served up five service aces in a 3-0 sweep of Sarah Lawrence on March 24 before wrapping up the conference tri-match with five kills (.833 hitting percentage) in a win over Yeshiva.

Ryan Freeley (So.) – Men's Tennis Player of the Week

Freeley picked up a pair of wins in a 9-0 season-opening victory over Lehman on March 23. After an 8-1 first doubles win paired with senior Kyle Conway, the sophomore went on to win his first singles contest by a 6-0, 6-2 scoreline.

Nick Bongiorno (Fr.) – Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week

In his first-career collegiate contest, a 9-0 win over Lehman, Bongiorno registered a pair of victories. Paired with sophomore Kenneth Pettersen, Bongiorno earned a second-doubles win (8-0) before cruising to a 6-0, 6-2 victory at second singles.

Catherine Zucker (Fr.) – Softball Rookie of the Week

Zucker made two appearances in the pitcher's circle last week and posted a 1-0 record with a 1.29 earned-run average. After tossing 6.1 innings and allowing three earned runs in a 7-1 loss to Tufts on April 18, Zucker tossed seven innings of scoreless softball in a 4-0 win over Old Westbury on March 24. Zucker allowed just one hit and struck out eight batters in the victory.

Sean Williams (Fr.) – Men's Volleyball Rookie of the Week

In a 2-1 week for the men's volleyball team, Williams factored in four sets of action across two matches. The freshman hit .600 and averaged 2.75 kills-per-set. In sweeps of Sarah Lawrence and Yeshiva on March 24, Williams put down five and six kills, respectively. The outside hitter also picked up three digs in the win over Yeshiva.

Anthony Raucci (Sr.) – Baseball Weekly Honor Roll

Raucci started in all five of the baseball team's games last week (SJC 2-3) and posted 10 hits for a .556 batting average. In total, the infielder went for four doubles and drove in four runs. In a 9-4 win over USMMA on March 24, Raucci went 3-for-6 with an RBI and two runs.
