Jones, Nakashian and Smocer Tabbed Skyline Players of the Week

New York, NY| The Skyline Conference released its weekly awards on Monday afternoon and amongst the winners were seniors Tyler Jones (men's volleyball), Lyndsay Smocer (softball) and Jesse Nakashian (baseball) of St. Joseph's College (L.I.), who were named Players of the Week in their respective sports.

Additionally, sophomore Lindsay Ness was named Softball Rookie of the Week and senior Nicole Stoppelli appeared on the Women's Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll.

Tyler Jones (Sr.) – Men's Volleyball Player of the Week

Jones averaged 9.50 assists-per-set through three matches last week as the men's volleyball team posted a 2-1 record. In a 3-2 loss to #4 Stevens the setter dished out 40 assists, and in a 3-1 win over Hunter Jones was credited with 41 assists and a team-high 19 digs. Jones currently leads the Skyline Conference in assists-per-set (9.30).

Jesse Nakashian (Sr.) – Baseball Player of the Week

Led the Golden Eagles at the plate with a .500 (10-for-20) batting average while slugging at an .850 clip. The senior knocked in eight runs while scoring five, hit two doubles, a triple and a grand slam. Went 3-for-5 in a season-opening win over Lehman and went 3-for-4 with two RBIs in win over Skidmore. The infielder currently ranks fourth in the conference in batting average and second in slugging percentage.

Lyndsay Smocer (Sr.) – Softball Player of the Week

Hit .529 and posted a .882 slugging percentage in six games last week (SJC 4-2). The senior went for 10 RBI's, nine hits, two doubles and two triples in 17 at-bats. Hit 2-for-3 with an RBI in an 8-4 win over St. Norbert and was 2-for-2 with two triples and three RBI's in a win over Grinnell. The shortstop is currently the Skyline Conference leader in slugging percentage and is second in batting average.

Lindsay Ness (So.) – Softball Rookie of the Week

In 21 at-bats last week the catcher posted a batting average of .476 and drove in seven RBI's. Ness was credited with four doubles and boasted a .667 slugging percentage in six games. In the victory over St. Norbert, Ness hit 2-for-4 and drove in three runs, and in the win over Grinnell she went 3-for-5 with one RBI.

Nicole Stoppelli (Sr.) – Women's Lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll

Led all players with five points on three goals and two assists in SJC's lone game of the week—a 14-8 loss at Kean on March 15. The senior also picked up three groundballs and had one caused turnover. As of Monday afternoon, Stoppelli was second in the conference in points-per-game (6.50).
