Skyline Conference Releases 2019 Spring Coaches’ Preseason Polls

New York, NY| Three of five St. Joseph's College (L.I.) spring sports teams finished in the top three of their respective Skyline Conference Spring 2019 Preseason Coaches Polls, which were released on Friday.

Faring best was the baseball team, which was tabbed to repeat in 2019 after claiming its second title in the last three years in 2018. The Golden Eagles garnered 80 total points and eight of a possible 10 first-place votes. SJC qualified for the NCAA Division III New York Regional and recorded its second-ever regional championship victory with a 2-1 win over Amherst.

Coming off a Skyline final defeat in 2018, the softball team finished second in its vote with 58 total points and three first-place votes. Defending champion Mount St. Mary (59 points) was the top vote getter with five first-place votes.

A two-time Skyline Conference champion, the women's lacrosse team garnered one first-place vote and finished in third in its respective poll with 39 points. USMMA (49 points) and Farmingdale (41) finished ahead of the Golden Eagles.

Rounding out SJC's spring contingent were the men's lacrosse and the men's tennis teams, which finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in their polls. The men's lacrosse team looks to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in their third year of existence while the men's tennis team looks to earn a postseason berth for the first time since 2014.
