Baseball Drops Non-Conference Doubleheader to Ithaca

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) baseball team dropped a pair of games in its non-conference doubleheader vs. Ithaca College at Gregg Alfano Field on Sunday afternoon. With the losses, the Golden Eagles fall to 2-2 on the year as the Bombers improve 2-3.

Game 1

In a classic pitchers duel, both teams saw hitless baseball for five innings. Anthony Bonilla broke up Benji Parkes' no-hit bid with a two-out double down the left field life. James Nakashian's single put runners on the corners with an infield single, however, Parkes would get out of the jam to preserve the scoreless draw.

In the bottom of the seventh, with two outs, Mike Griffo doubled to left field to drive in Tyler Crafa for the first run of the contest.

Ithaca would answer in the top of the eighth, when Andrew Baily singled through the left side to score Domenic Boresta. Ryan Henchey delivered a single to drive in two runs for the Bombers increasing their lead to 3-1 at the end of the eighth inning.

The Bombers would tack on an insurance run in the top of the ninth to seal the 4-1 victory.

Nick Girardi threw five hitless innings, striking out five batters. Josh Outsen got the loss in his 3.1 innings of relief, walking two and striking out four batters.

Game 2

Ithaca got off to quick start in the first inning, as Josh Savacool led off the game with a single to left field. Andrew Bailey later drove in the first run of the game with a single to score Savacool. Web Little would double the score, 2-0, with a sacrifice fly to center field.

In the top of the third, Ithaca added to its run total (3-0) when Bailey singled up the middle to drive in Matt Carey.

The game started to slip away from the Golden Eagles with Ithaca scoring seven runs on five hits to take a10-0 lead in the fifth inning.

St. Joseph's was held scoreless in the bottom of the fifth leaving Lynn in scoring position.

Ryan Henchey lifted a two-run shot over the left field fence to increase the Bombers lead to 12-0 in the sixth, and Sam Little would later score on a passed ball.

The Golden Eagles would get on the board in the bottom half of the sixth winning when Nick Giradi scored due to an error by the shortstop.

In the top of the seventh, the Bombers unloaded in another strong inning, scoring five run on five hits to take an 18-1 lead.

In the bottom half of the inning, Bonilla hit an RBI double to left field to score Andrew Libertelli, but the Golden Eagles would fall to the bombers 18-2.

Ryan Aloise received the loss after tossing four innings and allowing two earned runs.

The Golden Eagles return to the field on Wednesday March 9 when they take on John Jay  College at Gregg Alfano field. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 PM. Live stats will be available here.
