Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Farmingdale; 7-0, 5-1

Farmingdale, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) baseball team dropped the first game of its Skyline Conference doubleheader to rivals Farmingdale State by the score of 7-0 before winning the night cap 5-1 on Wednesday Night at FSC Baseball Stadium. The Golden Eagles are 11-8 on the regular season and 4-4 in conference play, while the Rams are now 10-11 overall and 5-1 in Skyline action.

Game 1

The Rams opened their bottom half of their inning with a single up the middle by Nick Attardi, he would then advance on a wild pitch.  Brian Brenton laid down the sacrifice bunt to Josh Outsenwho threw the ball away to put runners on first and second. One batter later Dalton McCarthy split the outfielder for an RBI double to take a 2-0 lead.

Both pitchers then entered a pitching duel retiring all 18 batters in order, before Joseph Calabrese walked in the top of the fifth, and stole second right after. The Golden Eagle however could not capitalize and left a runner in scoring position.

In the bottom half of the sixth, Joshua Shapiro drew a 3-2 walk to put runners on first and second for the Rams, McCarthy then delivered his third RBI of the game with a single to center field. The Golden Eagles loaded up the bases and Brandon Snow drew a walk to put the visitors up 4-0.  In the following at-bat Ryan Osborne singled to drive in the fifth run of the contest. Kenneth Johntry added on to the Golden Eagles run total as he was hit by a pitch as Farmingdale now took a commanding 6-0 lead.

Farmingdale tacked on another run in the bottom of the eighth as Johntry was credited with a sacrifice fly to the right fielder.

The Golden Eagles could not get their offense going as six batters were retired in order dropping game one of the doubleheader 7-0.

Outsen received the loss, as he threw 5 2/3 innings allowed six runs and struck out six batters. 

Game 2

After three silent innings, the Golden Eagles had the bases loaded for Calabrese, singled past the first baseman, to drive in the first run of the game.

Calabrese connected on a fastball to deliver a two-run blast to put SJC ahead 3-0 in the top of the sixth.

In the bottom of the sixth, Brenton singled up the middle, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. In FSC's next at-bat, Matteo Gaudio reached on an error and Brenton scored to cut the deficit to 3-1.

In the top of the seventh Anthony Bonilla was credited with the sacrifice fly that brought home Ryan Walsh for a 4-1 advantage over the hosts. After a Nick Girardi single, Bob Keating doubled to right center to drive in Girardi to hold a 5-1 win over Farmingdale.

Brandon Lubrano tossed a complete game, striking out six batter and only giving up one run en route to his second win of the season.

The Golden Eagles will now take on St. Joseph's College (Brkln) on Saturday April 16 at 12:30 PM. The game will be played at Gregg Alfano Field in Patchogue, NY but will count as a home game for the Bears.
