Baseball Splits Conference Doubleheader with the Bears 7-2, 1-0

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) baseball team split a Skyline Conference doubleheader with the St. Joseph's College  (Brklyn) Bears (13-14, 4-4), dropping the opener, 7-2, before picking up the 1-0 win in the second game on Saturday afternoon at Gregg Alfano Field.

Game 1

The Golden Eagles (12-9, 5-5) got off to a quick start in the top of the first, as they threaten the Bears with the bases loaded, when Joe Calabrese singled up the middle to drive in the opening two runs of the game.

In the bottom of the third the Bears got on the scoreboard after an RBI single by Francis Rapp that drove to cut SJC's (Brklyn) deficit in half 2-1.

The bats came alive for the Bears, all with two outs, when Connor Passetti singled down the left field line to drive in the tying run. With runners on first and second Brian Luebcke double down the left field line to put the Bears ahead 4-0. John Condon and Nicholas LoPrinzi would both record an RBI as St. Joseph's (Brklyn) took control of the game 6-2.

The Bears tallied on an additional run in the bottom of the seventh with help from an Anthony Camerada sacrifice fly to put the game out of reach for the Golden Eagles 7-2.

Game 2

The second featured a pitcher's duel between the two teams, with Steven Szobesky and Golden Eagles coming on top with a 1-0 victory.

Szobesky threw 5.2 inning and allowed five hits while striking out five, Micheal Catanzaro came in for the four out save to seal the victory for the visitors on the scoreboard.

Pasetti tossed a complete game as he was credited with the loss, allowing four hits in seven innings and striking out five.

The lone run of the game came in the top of the second inning when Calabrese doubled to left field to drive in Sean Balsam.

The Golden Eagles will return to their home turf tomorrow when they take on Mount St. Mary College at Gregg Alfano field at 12:00 PM.
