Women's Soccer Shut Out in Season Opener

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) women's soccer team opened up the 2022 season with a 1-0 loss to Stockton University on Thursday afternoon.

Top performers

  • Keeper Mikayla Ritter turned away all three shots she faced in the second half with Madelyn Hunter making three stops in the opening frame.
  • Gianna Edwards guided the Golden Eagle defense that limited the Ospreys to just one goal on seven opportunities on net. 
  • Facing a solid defense, Carli LoNigro posted St. Joseph's lone shot of the game in the 78th minute.

How it happened

  • The Ospreys snapped a scoreless tie in the sixth minute of play when Sydney Williams followed up a rebound off St. Joseph's keeper Madelyn Hunter.
  • The visitors held the Golden Eagles without a shot on net until LoNigro's attempt went wide with just over 12 minutes left on the clock.  

Notes

  • Stockton outshot the Golden Eagles 13 to 1 and held a 3-1 corner kick advantage.
  • The Ospreys hold a 10-0 record over the Golden Eagles going back to the 2008 season.
