Women's Tennis Pushes Past Lehman College, 5-3

Bronx, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's tennis team earned a hard-fought 5-3 victory over non-conference rival Lehman College on Tuesday afternoon. The Golden Eagles improve to 2-1 on the year, as the Lightning slide to 1-2. 

The tandem of Alana Caporale and Lindsey Charrier got the Golden Eagles started winning the first point of the match defeating Celine Figueroa and Alana Bierman, 8-0. The third doubles match-up featured Caroline Rina Mandaro and Nora Burnett, who doubled SJC's lead (2-0) winning their match 8-1 over Yohara Molineros and Leslie Juanacio. Lehman cut its deficit by one (2-1) when Sacha Espiritu and Lizaveta Markouskaya pushed past Amanda Post and Victoria Panicola, 9-7.

Lehman tied the match up at two as Amanda Post dropped her set to Espiritu 6-2, 6-0. Burnett dominated her number three singles match winning both sets 6-0, 6-1 to push the Golden Eagles ahead 3-2. Mandaro helped SJC gain a two-point advantage (4-2), outlasting Jihane Bahbaz 6-0, 6-1.

Caporale claimed the fifth point for the victory defeating Figueroa 6-2, 6-1 to take down the Lightning.

The Golden Eagles travels to take on CUNY opponent York College on Saturday Sept. 16 at 2:00 PM.
