Women's Tennis Earns 5-4 Win Over Farmingdale in Skyline Conference Showdown

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's tennis team earned a hard-fought 5-4 victory over Skyline Conference rival Farmingdale State College on Wednesday afternoon. The Golden Eagles improve to 3-2 on the year and 1-1 in conference play, as the Rams slide to 3-5 (0-2 Skyline).

The tandem of Amanda Post and Victoria Panicola got the Golden Eagles started winning the first point of the match by defeating Kayla Reidy and Olivia Stauffer, 8-1. The third doubles match featured Nora Burnett and Caroline Mandaro who doubled SJC's lead 2-0 winning their match 8-1. Farmingdale cut its deficit by one (2-1) when Celine Zollinger and Carolann La Monica pushed past Alana Caporale and Lindsey Charrier 8-6.

Farmingdale tied the match up 2-2, as Caporale dropped her set 6-0, 6-1. Burnett won both her sets, 6-0, 6-1, in a dominant performance at the third singles court to push the Golden Eagles ahead 3-2. Charrier helped SJC gain a two-point advantage (4-2) outlasting Marino 6-1, 6-3.
Over on the first court, Post could not seal the fifth point for SJC dropping her match 6-1, 6-4. Farmingdale had momentum sway to its side and rallied back to tie the game 4-4 as Cameren Jackson outlasted Mandaro 6-4, 6-3.

Panicola claimed the fifth point for the victory in a hard-fought battle winning the first set 6-1 and won the second set in a tie-breaker thriller 7-6 (7-3).

The Golden Eagles will continue conference play and travel to Newburgh, NY to take on Mount St. Mary at 1:00 PM.
