Patchogue, NY| The second-seeded St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's tennis team saw its 2017 season come to an end on Wednesday evening with a 5-4 loss to third-seeded Mount St. Mary College in the semifinal round of the Skyline Conference championship.

With the loss, the Golden Eagles wrap their season with a 10-3 record as the Knights improve to 8-8 and advance to the conference final.

SJC earned the match's first point when Victoria Panicola and Nora Burnett earned an 8-3 victory at first doubles, but losses at second and third doubles saw the hosts fall behind 2-1.

First singles would go to the guests, but consecutive wins for SJC at third (Alana Caporale) and then second doubles (Burnett) tied the match up at three.

After splitting fourth and sixth singles, the teams found themselves locked in a 4-4 tie, meaning the winner of the fifth singles match would advance to the final.

In that fixture, SJC's Caroline Mandaro responded to a first-set defeat with a 6-3 win of her own in the second, but it was MSMC's Dorothy Tighe that earned a 6-4 win in the third set to clinch the 5-4 upset win for the guests.
