McCarthy Drives Eagles to Comeback Win Over Dolphins

Patchogue, N.Y.Sean McCarthy (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) hit a running lay-up with 2.2 seconds left in the game to lead St. Joseph's College (4-9, 2-4 SKY) past the College of Mount Saint Vincent  (5-8, 2-4 SKY), 69-67, in a Skyline Conference game.  The sophomore guard led the Golden Eagles with 18 points on 6-for-8 from the field and pulled down eight rebounds.

The game was tied at 67 after Shaquille Cunningham of the Dolphins hit a shot with 11 seconds remaining - and was fouled - but missed an opportunity to convert a three-point play to put Mount Saint Vincent ahead in the final seconds.

St. Joseph's mounted a valiant comeback from a ten-point halftime deficit (44-34) and finally took the lead, 57-56, on a jumper by Brady Colucci (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Port Jefferson) with 8:32 left in the game.  Jordan Kowalski (North Babylon, N.Y./Abilene (Texas) followed up by making it 59-56 with 7:29 on the clock.

Phil Calixte (Amityville, N.Y./Holy Trinity) was the second leading scorer for SJC with 15 points.  Colucci (13) and Kowlaski (10) also both reached double-figures. Keith Anderson (Central Islip, N.Y./North Babylon) grabbed a game-high 11 boards and chipped in with nine points and two blocked shots.

Up next for the Eagles will be a tough Skyline match-up with arch-rival Farmingdale State (8-4, 4-1 SKY) in the Danzi Center this Wednesday night at 7:15.
