Panthers Sweep Eagles in Second Meeting

Old Westbury, N.Y. – The Panthers of Old Westbury (21-3, 17-0 Skyline) finished the season sweep of the Eagles of St. Joseph's College (6-17, 4-12 Skyline) with a 119-80 win at the Clark Athletic Center. The last time Old Westbury swept the season series against the Eagles was back in the 2006-07 season when St. Joseph's finished with a record of 17-10.

The Panthers pounced on the Eagles right out of the gate, jumping out to a 15-3 lead in the first three minutes of the game.  St. Joseph's tried to keep pace and a Phil Calixte (Amityville, N.Y. / Holy Trinity) layup with 5:52 on the clock cut the Eagles' deficit to 13. However, Old Westbury kept cruising the rest of the half and went into the locker room with a 59-32 lead.

Old Westbury kept their foot on the gas and came out firing in the second half. The Panthers started the half on a 12-2 run in the first 3:10 to extend the lead to 37. St. Joseph's was never able to make it close after that. The Eagles were outrebounded 47-27 and struggled to shoot from the floor (30-of-76). Old Westbury was able to capitalize on the ten St. Joseph's turnovers; turning them into 21 points.

A bright spot for the Golden Eagles was Evan Mohammed's (Bayside, N.Y. / Holy Cross) 24 points. He hit 7-of-16 from downtown. Phil Calixte and Jordan Kowalski (North Babylon, N.Y. / Abilene (Texas) each added 13 points. Dan Thixton (Centeral Islip, N.Y. / Smithtown East) scored 11 points in 19 minutes off the bench.

The team's now face Sage (11-12, 6-10 Skyline) on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. home at the Danzi Center. The Gators defeated the Eagles 78-63 earlier in the season.
