Men's Basketball Rebounds With Skyline Win over Sarah Lawrence

Bronxville, N.Y. — The Golden Eagles (2-4, 1-1 SKY) earned themselves a comfortable Skyline Conference win evening out their league record on Tuesday, trouncing Sarah Lawrence Gryphons (1-5, 0-1 SKY), 72-46, in their second conference game of the season.

Although Sarah Lawrence matched the Golden Eagles point-for-point to begin the game, once SJC began to pull away five minutes into the first half the Gryphons couldn't keep up. Sean McCarthy (Kings Park, N.Y./ Kings Park) hit two free throws just before the first half ended to put the visitors up 30-22 going into the second stanza.

The Golden Eagles were firing on all cylinders when they stepped onto the court to begin the second half.  Before the Gryphons even realized what happened SJC scored ten points to put them up 40-22.  St. Joseph's continued to build upon the lead and with Andy Laurent's (Amityville, N.Y./ Amityville) three-pointer with 48 seconds on the clock, they snagged the lopsided win.

While the Golden Eagles' field goal percentage wasn't at an all-time high, the team shot an admirable 66.7% from the free throw line. McCarthy was the highest scorer with 19 while Laurent contributed with 15 points, dishing off six assists, ripping down six rebounds and nicking three steals.  Isaiah Moore (North Babylon, N.Y./ North Babylon) and Fernando Vazquez (Babylon, N.Y./ Babylon) each finished with ten points.

The Golden Eagles will host Mt. St. Mary on Saturday for a 1 p.m. Skyline Conference game in the Danzi Center.
