Men’s Soccer Earns Crucial Win vs. Mt. St. Mary

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team earned an important 2-0 win over Skyline Conference rival Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday afternoon at Danzi Stadium and improves to 4-8-1 (3-2-1 Skyline) on the season. The Knights fall to 4-9-1 overall and 3-2-0 in conference play.

An exciting first half yielded 18 shots split 10-8 in favor of the Golden Eagles, and they would be the side to tally the game's first match. After the Knights were whistled for a handball in the box, senior Enrique Tirado converted a 28th minute penalty to put the Golden Eagles up 1-0. The tally was the first of the season for Tirado, who has appeared in three matches this season.

The Golden Eagles would double their lead in the 35th minute, when junior Cody Puglisi darted out wide and crossed a ball into senior Justin Heredia, who buried his second goal of the season.

Mount Saint Mary got the better of the play in the second half, outshooting St. Joseph's 9-4, but they could not solve Avery Gomez, who made seven saves for the Golden Eagles in the match.

The Knights registered 17 shots to St. Joseph's 14 on the afternoon, but the Golden Eagles held the advantage in corners (6-3).

Junior Brian O'Sullivan played the match in central midfield and made an strong impact on the ball. Heredia also had a positive showing, providing industrious work up top.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, October 13, when they travel to face Skyline Conference rival Sarah Lawrence. Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM. Live stats will be available here.
