Heredia’s Double Powers Men’s Soccer to Third-Straight Skyline Win

Bronxville, NY| Junior Justin Heredia scored two goals as the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team earned a 3-0 Skyline Conference victory on the road against Sarah Lawrence on Tuesday evening in Bronxville, NY. The win, which propels the Golden Eagles to 5-8-1 (4-2-1 Skyline) on the season, is the third in as many games for St. Joseph's.

With just the third shot of the game, junior Eddie Whalen fired home his first goal of the season after stripping a Sarah Lawrence defender and curling a shot low left side to give the Golden Eagles the 1-0 lead in the eighth minute.

One minute later, Heredia netted his first goal of the night, when he took a right-sided cross from senior Andrew Stasiewicz and deposited it into the back of the goal for his fourth of the year.

After outshooting the Gryphons 12-3 in the first half, the Golden Eagles carried a 2-0 lead into the break, but the layoff would not affect the guests' momentum. St. Joseph's would generate 15 more shots in the second half while only allowing one.

Heredia would bag his second on the night and fifth of the season in the 60th minute, when he deflected a right-sided cross off the foot of freshman Michael Flynn into the top right corner of the net.

In all, the Golden Eagles would outshoot the Gryphons (27-4), earn more corners (5-4), but also rack up more fouls (7-6). Keeper Avery Gomez made three saves in his fifth win of the season, while Sarah Lawrence keeper James Berry was credited with 12 saves.

St. Joseph's is back at it tomorrow, October 14 when they travel to face Drew University. Kickoff is set for 4:30 PM. The match will be streaming live at this link.
